I moved to Scottsdale in August 1976. So, some may call me a native. But for those of you who have never heard or Scottsdale, let me tell you ita why it is so famous. It was the winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright who built Taliesin West as his retreat. It was one of the local favorite Charles Wrigley as well. More recently, is the home of Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Muhammad Ali, who all have houses nearby. Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad, Poor Dad) and Go-Daddy (domain provider) have their businesses here. It the location for the TPC golf course, a favorite of the professional tour. We are the spring training home of the San Francisco Giants and the neighboring cities hosting the Chicago Cubs, along with more than half of the major baseball teams in the league. Next year near Glendale, will host an event little known as the Superbowl. We also carry out the Barrett-Jackson auction of classic cars every year.
We west Phoenix border, south of Tempe and Mesa to the east. The population is 250,000 and our income is about $ 20,000 more than the national average. We Scottsdale Community College, home of the Fightin Artichokes' (no kidding) and a private airport.
But our ita of time it takes in newcomers. The Phoenix area summers are infamous for cooking in a crisp 105 to 110 degrees from June to September. But the rest of the year we can be in the 60th through 80A with very low humidity. Almost never been frost or snow. Everything is fine and the place of air conditioning to offset the high temperatures. We are in a desert so rain is rare. We average less than seven inches a year and most days are sunny and cloud free. The only pollution comes from neighboring cities and painfully traffic along one of our two highways. We have a wonderful few malls with the normal end designer stores and the Wal-Mart, schools trade. But what sets us apart from many other cities, is our environment.
As I said, were built in a desert, more specifically, the Sonoran Desert. Therefore, have panoramic views of mountains and streams, and saguaro cactus plant height. There are palm trees of different sizes that can grow to 50 feet high. Many homes use xeroscaping excluding grass and nonnative plants. Rockscaped meters are common. Another common feature is the ranch-style homes built on one level. Many have clay tile roofs and stucco exteriors tone to combat the sun. There are also pools of cheap land. This is not a luxury. The Most homes have air conditioning and ceiling fans. Tile floors are a common sight in every price range, composed of many tiles from Mexico. Trees citrus lemon orange and grapefruit, growing everywhere. Unfortunately, so do scorpions, rattlesnakes and black widows. We're home with Gila monsters and other smaller lizards. Add to the roadrunner and coyote, and you have the photo of wildlife.
So why Scottsdale I like so much? Well, Italian is very different from Red Bank, New Jersey, where I grew up. I like sunny days, western landscape, lack of crowds, and style relaxed life. It has a bit of California, without shades of the beach, although I drive to Rocky Point and set on a Mexican beach in San Diego and 4.5 hours in 6 hours. I can be in Las Vegas in 45 minutes by air. There Mexican food is great, modern buildings, low crime, good schools, and state of the art facilities medicine. Each year, we have many retirees from the Midwest area. Most have vacationed here for years, waiting for the opportunity to get a house winter here.
You may be wondering the point of me Whata saying all this? Am I a sucker for the Department of Tourism, who encourage you to visit or move here? Heck No! Although I love living here, I hope you stay where you are. I hope no one moves only new thing for many of our streets and companies. But that's not going to happen, IÂ'm afraid. Therefore, I will point out the disadvantages. Apartment arenÂ't economic, summer is a bitch, we have only two highways, one with photo-radar to catch violators, and sadly, Mike Tyson. What should you stop short. Did I mention that died Bob Crane of Hogan's Heroes fame at a motel in Scottsdale? Fortunately, that's the final straw. Now stop whining, go back to their jobs and clear the accumulation of snow in his driveway.
