Shoplifting in Arizona, what happens?
Okay, so (and friend) was captured today of theft at Macy's in Arizona. Letting go my friend, saying that would just be fine with it (his total was like $ 32), but I stayed because my total was $ 186. I was arrested and taken to jail, where they gave me a citation for a misdemeanor, and his fingerprints and all that jazz. I was given a court date. My question is what happens now? Does anyone know how much the fines are usually? Can the judge to send me to jail? I'm 18, so I have to go to court and I'm afraid I'm going to twist, and the judge sent me to jail or something. Furthermore, this offense will on my record for life, or can be removed? Does anyone have any advice? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Here is a graph of the sentence the Arizona Supreme Court - does not mean you'll get the most complete offer, but take a look to see what the maximum is facing. http://www.supreme.state.az.us/aoc/pdf/Sentencing% 20Chart% 202007.pdf. In addition, the Arizona Criminal Code can help http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ArizonaRevisedStatutes.asp?Title=13. Stealing property with a value of two thousand dollars or more, theft of property during a continuing criminal episode or stolen property if it is to promote, further or assist any criminal street gang or syndicate criminal is a Class 5 felony. Shoplifting of property worth one thousand dollars or more but less than two thousand dollars is a class 6 felony. Shoplifting property worth less than a thousand dollars is a Class 1 misdemeanor, unless the property is a firearm in which case the theft is a Class 6 felony. For the purposes of this subsection, "continuing criminal episode" means theft of property valued at fifteen hundred dollars or more if committed for at least three separate incidents over a period of ninety consecutive days with the intention of reselling the goods.
