Candidates from both major parties, namely the Democratic Party and the Republican Party (commonly known as the Old Town, Grand-GOP) are the main contenders for the top positions. Ironically, the Republican Party is the second oldest party in the U.S. after the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party is Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator New York and former first lady, John Edwards, former U.S. Senator North Carolina and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential candidate, Mike Gravel, former U.S. Senator from Alaska and the chairman of the Alaska House of Representatives, Dennis Kucinich, representative from Ohio, Barack Obama, senator from Illinois, USA, and former state senator Illinois, among others who are campaigning in the primaries and caucuses to win the support of delegates to win the Democratic Presidential nomination.
GOP delegates need to choose its presidential candidate Rudy Guilani between former New York mayor, Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, John McCain, Senator Arizona, USA, Ron Paul, U.S. Representative of Texas and 1988 Libertarian presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts, Fred Thompson, ex — U.S. Tennessee Senator, and others.
The 10 main topics (as decided by the general public in an online survey conducted by "The source Statesman: rel = "nofollow" href = "http://www.statesman.com/news/content/shared/news/interactives/elections2008_rank_issues/index.html"> http://www.statesman.com/news/content/shared / News/interactives/elections2008_rank_issues/index.html) that could affect the presidential results and in which both parties are courting the electorate candidate are:
- Iraq: This is the most emotive and may affect the final outcome of the presidential elections in a big way. The daily arrival of body bags from Iraq and increase the injured personnel, which adversely affect the nation. This, together with no seizure of weapons of mass dectruction has severely dented the image of the current government.
- Health Care: Health care and health insurance has become expensive, the costs of drugs is rising, unemployment is high (mainly due to outsourcing), economic growth is slow and the voters are a concern, harassed lot.
- Immigration: This is another emotional issue in particular with the Southern States Union. The entry of illegal immigrants, especially from Mexico, is affecting the prospects of the premises.
- Taxes: The high tax rates on the working class and the increasing number of exemptions to businesses and the wealthy class is growing economic disparity and create social tensions.
- Education: The voucher system is being promoted by the current government is creating more problems. Increased enrollment and withdrawal of grants and scholarships is affecting a large part of the middle and lower class society.
- Iran: The confrontation with Iran over its support for the Iraqi separatists Shiite groups and their stubborn nuclear ambitions could lead to another U.S. military intervention. This factor will play in the minds of voters.
- 7. Global Warming: Al Gore, co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has succeeded in putting the focus on planet Earth and our relationship with Him, forces us to reflect on our legacy for future generations – are going to inherit a green land or barren land?
- Stem cell research: The high prevalence of diseases lifestyle, a longer life-extending, and the need for new techniques to improve the quality of life underscores the need for research, unhampered by animal activists. This is stem cell research plays a key role. The current discussion revolves around ways to harvest stem cells for research.
- Abortion: There are marked differences in the two major parties approach to abortion. While Democrats prefer the option of leaving the mother, Republicans want to ban abortions.
- Gay marriage: same-sex unions have been a really long time, but without any legal sanction and protection. With society is more open and accommodating staff sexual orientations, this issue has taken center stage.
What are the views of most voters? Who can help? What gaged Party candidate has the pulse of the nation properly? The answer to these questions only known after the elections.
