I love to gather in Hawaii, I guess because the warriors are as easy to identify a brand as an extremely overvalued.
Throughout the season I've been saying that Washington last opponent (Hawaii this season) has no statistics, but is a better team and beat Hawaii at home turf December 1 in the land of pineapples.
Heck, sometimes I forget Hawaii is part of the United States. Perhaps because, like Alaska is not part of the contiguous United States.
A quick review of the 2003 Time Almanac says Hawaii is a chain of 1,523 kilometers of islets and eight main islands. "I'm ashamed (embarrassed) to learn that people in Hawaii is 41% in Asia, 24% white, only 9% of Pacific native Hawaiians and other islanders, and 26% other races less populated.
However, the Hawaii Warriors have given everyone something to celebrate. They are:
1) The undefeated at 8-0 and ranked in the number 12 in the Top 25 AP Poll and No. 14 in the BCS ranking.
2) are taking the Western Athletic Conference with a 5-0 record and should be a surprising clash when they host Boise State on Nov. 23. Boise State is 4-0 in the classification of the WAC, 7-1 on the season (their only loss is to Washington), ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press poll and No. 22 in the BCS ranking.
I secretly hope that Boise State Hawaii routes, but do not tell the fans in Hawaii, as this admission is just between you and me. Boise State is ranked No. 39 in the Sagarin rating and Hawaii is No. 41. Hawaii should be favored over Boise State and the Warriors are at home.
3) of Hawaii average over 50 points per game and ranks No. 1 among 119 schools in Division IA scoring offense.
4) I believe that playing in the defense of Hawaii WAC Conference soft but the Warriors would only give it a 22 points per game and rank No. 41 between the 119 teams in scoring defense.
All of this is quite breathtaking and impressive but when I look at their strength of schedule ranks see Hawaii 163rd in the Sagarin's ratings.
This means that opponents have been collectively Hawaii worse than the 119 Division IA schools and worse than the 44 Division 1-AA schools. There are 242 schools in Division 1-A and 1-AA.
I wonder, "How can this team on 12 best team in the nation among 242 schools? "My answer is you can not.
1 of only 5 undefeated teams left among 119 Division 1-A schools, I recognize that 8-0 was not mean feat. If the other 114 teams in Division 1-A have not done this season, you better believe that it is not easy to do, regardless of competition.
Hawaii deserves much credit to remain unbeaten so far.
Washington, by contrast, is a statistical nightmare getting worse each game. The Huskies have given their fans much less to cheer. They are:
1) The suffering through a 6 game losing streak and taking on water faster than a sinking Titantic. A 2-6 record is not impressive on paper.
2) They are allowing 259 yards per game and 96th rank among 119 Division 1-A schools in pass defense. This can be a good thing going against Hawaii averaging 459 yards passing game, averaging more than 4 touchdown passes a game, and ranks number 2 in the country in passing offense.
Hawaii deals No. 4 nationally in passing efficiency with a 162 + rating. Yikes.
I'm basing my premise of all that Hawaii has played so far a program for high school biscuits and JV opponents. If I'm completely wrong, Washington is going to take a beating for 5 touchdowns, as the Husky pass defense could not leave her grandmother on her best day. They are terrible to say the least.
3) Notwithstanding the Husky pass defense is bad, they are better than the Husky defenders point to give to 214 yards per game and a range of 111 to worse in Rush Defense.
4) Washington's defense is allowing 474 total yards per game (probably a good second half Hawaiian impressive offensive) and ranks 109th nationally among 119 schools.
5) The Huskies give up 34 points per game and 101 ranking points allowed. It has lost 18 turnovers.
6) Washington Time of possession on offense ranks 116th nationally at 27:03 minutes per game.
7) For the first time in 6 weeks, Washington has not had the toughest schedule in the country. The Huskies are now ranked 2nd among the 119 teams in the strength of schedule. So who is No. 1? Fasten your seat belt, which is none other than fighting Irish Notre Dame record with his 1-7.
So what does that mean Washington in his favor? Well, not a hell of a lot at the time, to tell the truth.
Not Redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Locker. In his last game against Arizona, who made career records with 336 yards and 157 yards rushing. His 98-yard completion to Marcel Reece is the longest in Husky history. In 8 games Locker has rushed for 694 yards. Not bad.
Hawaii has Colt Brennan. The website shows Warrior Brennan 7 game statistics on 225 completions in 328 attempts (68% completion rate) to 2820 meters (402 yards per game), 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Awesome, Dude, totally awesome.
I have no idea how Locker, a freshman, you do against Brennan, a 6-foot-3, 201-pound senior astute Irvine, California. Brennan Part of working time is probably as A gunman in a band outside the law.
Could be in Washington on his head? Is the pope Catholic? (—-) Does a bear in the woods?
I have to remind Washington team manager to not only shoulder pads and helmets, flak jackets but well. Those missiles could be frequent and disturbing Colt on the island has been built.
Hopefully, the Warriors are hospitable to their victims.
