The Arizona Diamond is an American professional baseball team established in 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona. They are members of the Western Division of Major League Baseball's National League. Phoenix became the 9th largest U.S. city in 1990 due to relocation of the warm population especially in the states of the Midwest and Northeast. Furthermore, there was relocating from sunny California. The demand for professional team National League approached the region, as baseball fans grew in strength. Calangelo Jerry took the first step to the creation of Arizona Baseball Inc. His experience as majority owner of NBA team the Phoenix Suns was useful and in 1995 was held the "name the team" contest. The first prize was a season ticket for life. The winning option was Diamond Back, the name of a rattlesnake, common in Arizona. This snake five feet long can inject a significant amount of venom, when strikes. The team is nicknamed D-backs and snakes. The team logo is red and a black triangle above the script Diamondbacks purple. Colangelo's group received the franchise in 1995 to play throughout the 1998 season with Tampa Bay Devil Rays (St. Petersburg). The grounds of are the fields of Chase, which were formerly known as Bank One Ballpark (aka The BOB) and has a retractable roof again.
The team played its first season in 1998 with the first game in March Rookies 31.1998 against Colorado before a crowd of 50,179 filled. He lost the match by 2-9. The Arizona Diamondbacks won their first World Series title in 2001, the youngest franchise to do so. Also in the first five seasons he also won three division titles. The Arizona Diamondbacks won the NL West on four occasions in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2007. The number of retirees is 42, Jack Robinson, who was retired by Major League Baseball. In 2007, Bob Melvin, their manager, won the Manager of the year. PD Jose Valverde won the Fireman Award in 2007. LHP Randy Johnson won four Cy Young in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and Brandon Webb High Level Group in 2006. In 2006, Craig Consell 2B won the LCS MVP. During 2001, the team won the World Series, LHP Randy PD Johnson and Curt Schilling won the World Series MVP. The other distinguished achievement do not include batters 5/18/2004 by Randy Johnson (prefect) and Cycle Hitters by Luis González (7/5/2000), Greg Collbrunn (9/18/2002) and Stephen Drew (9/1/2008).
The Arizona Diamondbacks' best season was 1999 with the count at 100-62 and the worst season 51-111 count in 2004. After the 2004 season, the Diamond Back Wally hired to be the manager, but dismissed him within 10 days due to legal problems and irregularities. The veteran free agents, Tony Clark and Livan Hernandez not re-sign. Orlando Hudson underwent surgery after a collision with Brian McCann of the Atlanta Braves. Another important player was injured Eric Byrnes. Due to injury, the Diamondbacks trade C Wilkin Castillo and Micah Because Adam Dunn PD. Further away the World Series MVP David Eckstein acquired the second baseman to fill in Orlando Hudson. The season ended at 82-80 mark.
