What makes a good schoolhouse? Beyond the basics of classrooms and library, a good school inspires students and teachers and enhances the learning environment through its architecture and its art. Nowhere is this principle better demonstrated than in the New York City school system, the largest in the United States, where a collection of more than 1,500 artworks has been assembled over nearly 150 years. This extraordinarily diverse group ranges from stained glass by Tiffany Studios to vast mural cycles commissioned by the WPA to modern and contemporary works by Hans Hofmann, Ben Shahn, Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, and Vito Acconci. Education has been a priority for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and school construction and public art have expanded dramatically under his leadership. New school buildings have been commissioned from noted architects including Polshek Partnership, Pei Cobb Freed, and Arquitectonica, with installations by Tony Oursler, Sarah Morris, and James Casebere. Public Art for Public Schools provides a comprehensive and insightful account of the history and future of this program, lavishly illustrated with archival images from the Department of Education and handsome new photographs by the noted architectural photographer Stan Ries, which were specially commissioned for this publication.

"What`s public about public schools? Why do we invest in educating the next generation of Americans? What is it that drives our common purpose in educating children and at the same time divides us so passionately about how to educate them? Public schools have little to do with children. Schools are political and ideological institutions in which each generation battles among itself for supremacy in determining the purposes, goals and direction of public education. From battles over school lunch to schooldress to school prayer, each generation reinterprets and recapitulates the political and ideological arguments that date back to the founding of our nation. More than two centuries after the American Revolution, public schools serve as political battlefields for debates about religious freedom and whether students should be allowed to wear U.S. flag teeshirts. We invite you to join us in an exploration of the purposes of public schools, the competing visions of public education, and the values of the public good that comprise the public in public schools"-- Provided by publisher.

The increased number of students taking distance / online learning classes is not a new phenomenon. Distance education is the process of supporting students by extending learning opportunities and support services through technology to reduce time and space. In today's ever-changing world, students need more flexibility in their education. The use of online classes has filled this need. However, not all students who have flourished with the use of technology.

Many students have been removed or not distance education courses online. This negative effect of not encouraging students, nor promote the re-registration of more distance learning classes online and / or other classes at school. One of the main goals of higher education is to educate all knowledge seekers. If the way it presents a kind of a student or discourages the grounds that he / she does not, the class is not beneficial. However, not all students are affected in the same way. Many students thrive in these classes. Many of these students may not have access to education, if not for distance learning classes online.

This polarization of the effects on students of online education classes has encouraged studies being done in this area. One such study was conducted to determine whether an instrument or tool may be used to identify students who would or no benefit from online education class prior to enrollment.

The study, published by Monica Mayor's in the American Journal of Distance Education (2004), involving the administration of two tests: integrated group test numbers and the Online Technologies Self Efficacy Scale. The Group Embedded Figures test was an analysis of what each cognitive style of an account during learning. This test places individuals in one of the two areas, one of the areas dependent or independent on the ground.

A field dependent person needs the participation of others and their environment in order to learn. Moreover, the field independent person is more individualistic. This person is based on internal stimuli and is autonomous in their learning. The second test given was the Online Technologies Self-Efficacy Scale. This evaluation identified a person's level of comfort. In this particular study, the level of comfort in technology has been identified, if a person has a confidence level high or low when working with technology.

After the test it was found that, although an independent student in the field, along with a high level of technology self-efficacy, these students did not receive higher rates of success in the classroom. In the end, neither results nor cognitive style characteristic of online technology, efficacy results were predictors of student success in distance learning classes online.

Although the results did not reveal the tool (s) to identify the success rates of distance learning classes online, before registration, the search will not be missed. Students will continue to search for schools with flexible classes and higher education institutions are geared to students for success. According to the U.S. Department of Education and the Chronicle of Higher Education, during 2000-2001, 90% of public two-year college institutions offering community education classes distance.

The use of technology is not going away. Instead, the information is added to what we know about student success and Distance education online.

Do I have to go to college (UNDERGRAD.) if you want to be a pharmacist?

I'm thinking about being a pharmacist, she could attend a community college for 2 years, then can I transfer to a school of pharmacy rather than making 2 more years of degree? There are more pharmacy schools in the country I am seeing, of the University of Illinois at Chicago ranked 7. The University of Texas at Austin, ranked 4 The University of Arizona in Tucson classified 9. Which should I go (if I get in). And some other very good schools which are among the 20 best. All 50 schools of pharmacy. Utah Jazz-lol yeah I'm still considering that, perhaps as a minor.

Mar C has no clue one what he / She is talking. Yes, you can go to a CC and then have a strong GPA and PCAT score well and try to transfer to a Pharm. school. The Pharm. schools are the better than very good. If you get in them a visit and see what you like.
