The bicycle tail lights are not, by most, considered as important as the headlights. Bicycle headlamps should be seen from 100 feet away while a red reflector at the rear is more common legal minimum requirement. Given that security and the law tells us we should go in the same direction as traffic, so drivers do when approaching a bicycle from behind can be the difference between life and death. With the increasing number of awareness programs on bicycle safety and increasing reports of accidents, some fatal, many cyclists have been the choice of brilliant bicycle tail lights reflectors, whatever legal requirements.

Officer Dan McQuillin bicycle unit Chandler Arizona, speaking to his local newspaper, The Arizona Republic said that "new drivers tend not to educate themselves before taking the road, and that can lead to dangerous results. Although state law requires only reflectors, we recommend red tail lights. But now the number is growing again, 716 cyclists died in traffic accidents in 2008. I know that this increase is a direct reflection on the lack of bicycle taillights, but it certainly shows that, even with all the safety information available bicycles still have a great improvement in the awareness of bicycle safety.
