Early reviews of James D. Jere first novel, The Economics Tom Black, an Aventura Jake Silver (Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc., 2009) are rare, and after reading this novel very well, is quite obvious why.

It is mainly in Arizona in 1888, Tom Saving Black presents a cast of Western characters are really memorable, the lovely Betsy Dubonnet, a fugitive from a train that is an orphan searching for her mother, Thomas Jefferson, a black janitor who befriends the girl and assistance to help your child dress up the names of Tom Black, a young, hard, newly appointed Marshal U.S. Deputy Jake Plata. Their lives intertwine in a memorable, remarkable. Add to this trio, a small supporting cast, the characters well drawn, and the ingredients of a great book are in order. And as Shirley Johnson Senior Reviewer Midwest Book Review, commented, even the animals acquire captivating personality

James does a brilliant job of pace this story, and there is never a dull moment or a word in vain. He brings laughter, tenderness, tears, and spillage blood to the page with ease and remarkable skill. For those who like action, this book has plenty.

James weaves the story that follows Betsy Dubonnet as it moves west, armed only with incredible courage, looking for his mother. One of the principles, very funny scenes occurs when Betsy, disguised Black Tom's, is trying to buy a horse in a train stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the assistance of Thomas Jefferson. You do not even need to know to enjoy horses full of hysterical events that follow, and readers will never forget Betsy first night on the track after she meets U.S. Attached quarterback Jake Plata.

One of the beauties of this story is that it is largely in a classical style. Swearing is almost non-existent other than a couple of "conviction" and "hells." Sex and sexual innuendo are kept strictly traditional Western standards, and in this case, less is more. This is a book that may be recommended to all ages (14 and over) without a qualm. Although the author does not include Jake Plata in every single chapter, is never more than one chapter one way, and both Betsy and Jake are raised in the chapters that are absent.

The property is very well prepared and accurate, and historical figures appear regularly, or are referred, and the author skillfully weaves these historical characters and incidents in the narrative. This book is literally unforgettable.

The book has been reviewed by Midwest Book Review, Western Fiction Review, Marshall Trimble (Official Historian of the State of Arizona) and Steve Hayes, Western writer and author.
